Curriculum

Shoalhaven Community Preschool has embraced the Federal Governments Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The framework's vision is for all children (in all 0-5 settings) to experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life. A curriculum is developed from the broad outcomes of the framework that is responsive to children's ideas, interests, strengths and abilities through play. The Early Years Learning Framework describes childhood as a time of Belonging, Being and Becoming:

"Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel that they belong because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place. Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time in life and children need time to just 'be' - time to play, try new things and have fun. Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become."

Our learning environments are set up to provide interesting, stimulating and familiar places for exploration, building relationships and discovering the world through play.

Parents are able to observe and contribute to our curriculum and educators communicate with families about what is happening at preschool and make connections from home. An individual journal is kept for each child that parents can view at preschool and add their own photos or important stories to and families receive a fortnightly program newsletter reflecting on the learning and the experiences happening at preschool.

Our Educational Leader guides educators to critically reflect upon the development and implementation of our program against the National Quality Standards Quality area one- Educational Program and Practice to inform our program and practice.
